After an excruciating goal drought, the US Men’s National Team went with a different formation to beat Slovenia 3-2 and get a rare win in Europe. Juergen Klinsmann opted for two strikers with Edson Buddle joining Jozy Altidore up top and the change to made instant dividends. Buddle finished from outside the box in the 9th minute thanks to Clint Dempsey forcing a turnover. Later, Dempsey himself threatened with some headers before scoring on a corner in the 41st. Altidore converted a PK right before halftime after Fabian Johnson drew the penalty. It was a positive finish to what’s been a year of transition. Can’t wait to get Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Stuart Holden and Jose Torres all in the same lineup.
Congrats to Carlos Bocanegra on his 100th cap.
If this was Rooney, Messi, or any other “world class” player, everyone would be slobbering over this goal. Lets give Edson Buddle the credit he deserves. Shutting 35,000 Seattle fans up and making a handful of traveling LA fans go ape shit after an absolutely amazing goal to give his team the victory.
Edson Buddle, you’re a world class player.
