so i really like the new jerseys this year

if i were the kind of person to drop a hundred bucks on a sports jersey (i’m not) i would buy a million of the away shirts

Last year, Mark Peterson, who played six games for the U.S. national team, passed away at the too early age of 51. Peterson was from Tacoma, Washington, and played almost all of his career in the area for the Seattle Sounders and Tacoma Stars in the NASL and MISL. From his Seattle Times obituary by Josh Mayers:

Mr. Peterson was 19 when he debuted with the Sounders in 1980. He finished second in NASL Rookie of the Year voting after scoring 14 league goals and played with the team until it folded in 1983.

Over four years, Mr. Peterson scored 48 goals in 99 league games with Seattle and is often remembered for his two goals in a 3-0 win against Manchester United in 1982. He was a key figure for the Sounders that season, when they advanced to the Soccer Bowl (the NASL championship game) but lost to the New York Cosmos. Mr. Peterson finished the year with 17 league goals and was named NASL Player of the Year.

This is a rare video of him in action for the national team, scoring against Trinidad & Tobago in a qualifier for the 1986 World Cup. The U.S. won the game in St Louis 2-1, but failed to qualify for the World Cup in Mexico.
